Closing Reception: Small Oven Bakery Solo Show

Since February 14, a selection of my work has been hanging in the café at Small Oven Bakery in Easthampton, MA. On May 4th, my turn as the Small Oven artist will conclude and in celebration of my time on the walls, there will be a closing reception from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Refreshments will be provided, and pickup for sold work or last minute purchases will be available.

The selection of images on the walls came from a desire to impart something optimistic, without being overly saccharine. Installing a show to debut on Valentine’s Day made me want to give people something to look forward to- February is in many ways highly unpleasant in New England, and there’s months to go before nature offers us any relief; add on top of that a holiday of dubious merits and lesser intentions, and it becomes an active search for forward motivation. But once spring arrives, our thoughts turn to summer and soon we’ve forgotten all about gray days and freezing temperatures. In my choice of photos to display, I wanted to call upon the memories of more bearable times. Sunlight, a varied and green landscape, long afternoons, or a warm breeze. The work selected was mostly film photographs printed digitally, with a few digital captures and a couple of alt-process prints.

It was also a pleasant surprise to get to decorate the shelf above my work in the café! As an avid camera collector and vintage enthusiast, I take a lot of enjoyment in decorating my home with my collections and interests. To be afforded a chance to do that to enhance a cozy and chic public space was an unexpected delight. I’m hoping to expand into more opportunities to decorate a space, style a set, or otherwise collaborate in this manner in 2019.

All are welcome at the closing reception. It will run 6:30-8:30pm at Small Oven Bakery, in Easthampton, MA on Saturday May 4th, 2019. More details can be found here on Facebook
